Biography

William Seale

Author William Seale and GCA President Marian HillAfter receiving his master's and doctorate degrees from Duke University in 1964 and 1965 respectively, author William Seale taught at several U. S. colleges and universities and became curator of cultural history at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. Since 1975, Dr. Seale has been an independent scholar concerned with historical writing and the restoration of historic American buildings, notably state capitols. He has authored numerous books, including the two-volume work titled The President’s House: A History, which has been widely acclaimed and earned him the distinction of “White House historian.” The Garden Club of America is honored that the accomplished historian has written The Garden Club of America: 100 Years of a Growing Legacy on the occasion of our centennial.
