John M. Ellis, FAIA, has been a leader in housing and urban design for more than 35 years. Ellis has been continuously involved in the development of residential projects since 1980, and has completed more than 2,500 units of housing of all types. With experience that spans programmatic, social and financial goals, in greatly differing political and physical environments, John Ellis is comfortable dealing with housing in any and all of its different forms, from market rate to affordable housing, high-rise to low-rise, new to rehab.
Experience encompasses almost every possible housing category, including special needs housing, housing for seniors, public housing, mutual housing, and self-build housing. Planning and urban design experience includes rural, green building designs, suburban and high density inner city projects at scales ranging from a handful of units up to 2500 unit mixed use developments, with retail, offices, parking and recreation.
John Ellis is the recipient of many design awards, including the Andrew J. Thomas “Pioneer in Housing Award” awarded to him by his peers in the AIA/NYC Chapter.
