On Friday, November 17 at 7:30 pm, the Orleans Historical Society presented “Masterpieces for Cello and Piano,” with works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. The concert opened with Couperin’s delightful Pieces en Concert, followed by Beethoven’s Sonata No. 4 in C major, op. 102, #1. Highlighting the program was Chopin’s Sonata in G minor, op. 65, which he dedicated to his close friend, the French cellist and composer Auguste Franchomme. The last of Chopin’s works to be published during his lifetime, the piece was performed in Paris by Chopin and Franchomme at Chopin’s last public concert in 1848.
Two of this region’s finest musicians—pianist Anne Franciose Perrault and cellist Bo Ericsson—collaborated to share these outstanding works with Cape Cod music-lovers. Anne Franciose Perrault is the former chair of the piano department of the Longy School of Music, Cambridge. Bo Ericsson is the retired principal cellist of the Cape Symphony. The duo has been hailed for “the sensitivity and feeling of cohesiveness” of their performances.
